The Southern African Institute of Welding (SAIW) would like to provide an update to its stakeholders regarding its current status with the International Committee for Non-Destructive Testing (ICNDT).
The SAIW is currently not registered under Schedule 2 of the ICNDT, although it continues to hold associate membership. Schedule 2 registration allows authorised bodies to issue certification bearing the ICNDT logo and as a result, NDT certificates currently being issued will not include the ICNDT logo until registration is completed. Importantly, this does not affect the technical validity, quality, or recognition of the certification itself except with ICNDT.
The SAIW is actively progressing its re-registration under Schedule 2, with work well underway to meet all necessary requirements. A key step in this process has already been successfully completed, through the transition to ISO 9712 (2021 edition)and going forward all new certifications will be issued in accordance with ISO 9712:2021.
The SAIW continues to work closely with ICNDT to facilitate reinstatement as a Schedule 2 member. As part of this process, certificates issued to individuals after the 8 January 2026 are being reissued without the ICNDT logo. Certificates issued prior to this date remain unaffected. All impacted individuals will be contacted directly to ensure clarity and continuity.
It is also important to note that all SAIW NDT certifications remain fully compliant with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17024 and ISO 9712, as confirmed by SAIW’s accreditation with the South African National Accreditation System.
The SAIW recognises the importance of maintaining confidence in its certification processes and is committed to concluding the Schedule 2 registration as efficiently as possible. Further updates will be shared once reinstatement has been achieved.
