Activities Accepted

The following categories of activities will be acceptable to SAQCC-CP/IPE committee for the granting of credits for CPD in accordance with the requirements shown below and subject to prior approval by the committee:

Category 1

Structured or Developmental Activities: (Where Each Hour Is Recognised As a CPD Hour)

This Type of Activity Must Make Up a Minimum of 25% of the Total CPD Credits

  • Attendance at SAIW monthly technical evening meetings or SAQCC-CP/IPE approved evening meetings organised by other professional institutions or technical societies (Evidence of attendance must be submitted with the submission of CPD evidence)
  • Attendance at technical seminars, exhibitions, conferences organised by SAIW or other professional institutions. (Evidence of attendance must be submitted with the submission of CPD evidence)
  • Making presentations at conferences, seminars or technical evening meetings. (Evidence must be provided with the submission of CPD evidence)
  • Preparation of articles and reviews accepted for publishing. (Copies of the articles and reviews must be submitted with the submission of CPD evidence)
  • Coaching, teaching or lecturing. (Evidence must be provided with the submission of CPD evidence)
  • Committee, panel, Council or Board work on behalf of SAIW, SAIW Certification, SAQCC-CP/IPE, SAQCC-NDT, SAQCC-Corrosion or other professional institutions or technical societies. (Evidence of attendance must be provided with the submission of CPD evidence)
  • In-house training based on a formal, recorded and auditable programme. (Programme details must be submitted to the committee for prior approval and evidence must be provided with the submission of CPD evidence)
  • Further education studies and post qualification studies which are directly related to the applicant's field of work.

Category 2

Semi-Structured: (Where Two Hours are accepted as One CPD Hour)

This Type of Activity Will Be Limited to 50% of the Total CPD Requirement

  • Further education studies and post qualification studies not necessarily directly related to the applicant's field of work.

Details of both types of activities have to be submitted with the submission of CPD evidence.

Category 3

Unstructured: (Where Four Hours are accepted as One CPD Hour)

This Type of Activity Will be Limited to 25% of the Total CPD Requirement

  • Private study such as reading publications and learned journals relevant to the individual's own particular field. (References must be provided on the names, issue numbers and dates of each publication and/or journal
  • Private study involving distance and open learning study, which is not assessed and does not lead to a qualification. (Full details and syllabi must be submitted with the application)

Membership/attendance at technical committee meetings within the individual’s organisation. (This will not include planning, progress or other production related meetings). A senior representative of the organisation must verify attendance at such meetings.

Approval of CPD Activities

All CPD activities must be approved by the SAQCC-CP/IPE committee before they will be accepted as evidence in support of certification applications.

The SAQCC-CP/IPE committee will allocate CPD credits to approved activities.
