This is a SHEQ role, required in the following locations: Kya Sand

3.   Main Responsibility

Execute, control, and manage all welding related activities and documentation within the welding department. The role is an OHS CR 8.7 Supervisor role as well as a working supervisor role.

1.   General Tasks/Duties 

  • Co-ordinate, control and take charge of the welding department based on the scope of work assigned, taking ownership for entire department including all equipment, maintenance, welder coding and re-certification
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the approved WPS and PQR specifications, Company Procedures and always adheres to the Company Quality Standards
  • Assist with all welding work, preparation, jigs and any other work as appropriate
  • Ensure adherence to planned job/operation times, update and capture labour booking timeously. Advise on upcoming job times and assist with planned upcoming welding jobs
  • Reporting to and working closely with the Production Manager, co-ordinate and liaise with other departments on ongoing operations reporting any difficulties and exceptions to the Production Manager
  • Drive and develop best practice WPS’s and PQR’s based on the Companies manufacturing process and ensure the most suitable welders are correctly qualified
  • Take ownership for Department’s output, expenses, and performance
  • Play an active and pro-active role in further developing the Company Welding Quality Standards
  • Assist and train welding team where necessary ensuring all work is executed according to the appropriate WPS, PQR and Company Procedures and Quality Standards
  • Conduct toolbox talks and other general communication within department and providing continuous updates as necessary
  • Manage all aspects of employees within the department with guidance from the Group HR. Attending to all necessary training needs of Department employees
  • Attending to all necessary planning/production meetings as required

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Grade 12 or N4
  • Welding trade qualification (Practical Welding SAIW minimum)
  • Welding trade qualification (Red Seal highly advantageous)
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with SMAW, GMAW and GTAW welding techniques
  • Qualification in accordance with ASME IX standard
  • Welding Co-ordination qualification SAIW (advantageous)
  • Welding Inspection qualification SAIW (advantage)
  • Valid driver’s license

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 5 years relevant boilermaking, welding and fabrication experience
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience
