Course overview and target group
 

This course is designed for any person who wants to further their career in inspection and testing of boilers as required by the vessels under pressure regulations.

Course Duration: 5 days
Examination Duration: 1 day

Access conditions

 Candidates should have Grade 12 or equivalent qualification (minimum) and some relevant experience in inspection or operation of boilers.

Course content

THEORY:

  • Introduction and principles of radiography
  • X-ray and gamma ray equipment
  • Interaction of radiation with matter
  • Interpretation of radiographs
  • Identify artifacts and defects on radiographs
  • Complete a standard report form

Practical:

  • Interpret and evaluate radiographs in accordance with codes, standards and specification
Outcome of training

Successful students will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of radiography
  • Determine density and sensitivity
  • Recognise and identify artifacts and defects on radiographs
  • Identify and evaluate radiographs in accordance with codes, standards and specifications
  • Complete a standard report form
Training evaluation

Specific and general examination papers followed by a practical examination meeting the requirements of SAQCC (NDT) for Radiographic Interpreters.
