Competent Persons:
Pressure Vessels
Any person who wants to further their career in inspection and testing of pressure vessels as required by the pressure equipment regulations.
Course Duration: 8 days
Examination Duration: 2 days
Candidates should have Grade 10 or equivalent qualification (minimum) and some relevant experience in inspection of pressurised equipment.
THEORY:
- Background to legislation
- Relevant vessels under pressure regulations
- Safety prior, during and after inspections
- External and internal inspections (what to look for)
- Failures and repairs, including specific equipment and service conditions
- Overpressure protection devices
- Appreciation of NDT methods
- Pressure testing
- Report writing requirements
PRACTICAL:
- The course will provide information and a forum for discussion of matters in connection with the inspection and testing of pressure vessels to ensure their continued safe operation in use
- Detailed knowledge of the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Mineral Act regulations related to statutory periodic inspections of pressurised equipment
- Sufficient supporting technical knowledge to perform inspections of pressurised equipment

Training evaluation
A SAIW examination approved by SAQCC (CP) for pressure vessel personnel certification purposes.
