SAIW Certification logo no-no

It has become necessary to clear up the fact that no individual, even if certified, can use the SAIW Certification logo for any purpose whatsoever.

  

Falsified Inspector diplomas

Recently, three instances of falsified Level 1 SAIW Welding Inspection Diplomas have been presented to end-users as evidence of qualification as SAIW Welding Inspectors.

  

347 boost to 3834 scheme
August 2010

SAIW Certification Welding Fabricators Certification Scheme, which accredits welding fabricators to the SANS 3834 standard, will be boosted by the fact that SANS 347:2010, which is due to be published later this year, affirms that fabricators who design and construct pressure equipment in South Africa to the ASME code, will, inter alia, require SANS 3834 accreditation.

  

Converting from SAIW Welding Inspector (1980-1990) and Welding Supervisor to current SAIW Welding Inspector Level 2

SAIW still receives occasional applications from holders of older SAIW Welding Inspector and Welding Supervisor qualifications to convert to the current SAIW Welding Inspector Level 2 qualification.

  

Award of IIW International Welding Inspector Standard Qualification

In 2009 a Construction and Design module was included in the SAIW Welding Inspector Level 2 course and holders of this qualification can also be awarded the IIW International Welding Inspector–Standard diploma provided they comply with the requirements.

EN 473 aligned with ISO 9712

The two most important NDT standards, EN 473 (the predominantly European standard for the qualification and certification of NDT technicians) and ISO 9712 (the equivalent international standard) have been brought in line.

  

NDT certification requirements

It has been noted in recent NDT certification applications that some individuals are verifying either their own industrial experience record or the continued satisfactory work activity record required by ISO 9712:2005.
