Course overview and target group
 

This course is aimed at production and maintenance personnel who are responsible for the integrity of welded structures. It is also suited to welding inspection and quality control personnel in a welding and fabrication environment, as well as a person intending to pursue a career as an inspector of pressurized equipment.

Course Duration: 20 Days
Revision: 3 days
Examination: 2 Days

Access conditions

1.     Standard 8/Grade 10 with mathematics and science.
2.     Candidates must have the SAIW Inspector Level 1 qualification.

Course content

THEORY:

  • Materials technology of alloyed steels
  • Construction and Design
  • Qualification of welding procedures
  • Legal knowledge
  • Destructive testing of weldments
  • Appreciation of non-destructive testing methods
  • Codes, standards and specifications
  • Inspection and quality assurance of welded fabrications

PRACTICAL:

  • Select pre- and post- weld heat treatment to various specifications
  • Prepare a preliminary WPS; determine the range of qualifications for a welding  procedure to ASME IX and ISO EN 15614
Outcome of training

Successful students will be able to:

  • Understand the legal implications for welding inspection
  • Be able to identify and solve problems with difficult to weld steels and alloys
  • Be able oversee the correct application of testing according to a procedure
  • Understand and be able to apply the requirements of relevant codes and standards
Training evaluation

Examination to SAIW Inspector Level 2 requirements.
